'I believe that South Africa is the most beautiful place on earth. Admittedly, I am biased, but when you combine the natural beauty of South Africa with the friendliness and cultural diversity of our people, and the fact that the region is a haven for Africa's most splendid wildlife, then I think even the most scrupulous critic would agree that we have been blessed with a truly wonderful land.
I would like to extend a personal invitation to you to come and see
for yourself the splendour of South Africa. I know that my people will be delighted to welcome you and I think you will be enchanted by their warmth and hospitality. I am equally sure that you will enjoy our culture, our cuisine and the warmth of our people'
.
(Nelson Mandela - humanitarian AIDS campaigner and previous President of South Africa)

A world in one country, the
most diverse of  African
Experiences!

South Africa, called 'The Rainbow Nation' for its cultural diversity, is a country with eleven official languages and many more cultures.
There is a geographic diversity
ranging from sub-tropical to semi-desert,
mountain ranges and savanna. The range of activities and places to visit, are enormous; places of natural beauty including South Africa's five world
heritage sites, and experiences such as
Whale watching, Safaris on foot, Game
viewing, guided wilderness hikes, beaches
and mountains, golf safari, adventure sports,
history and cultural experiences.
The diverse natural beauty of South Africa is unrivaled by any African
country where your visit is enhanced by a highly developed
infrastructure...and yes it does mean traffic jams at rush hour!
South Africa is a land of contrasts because here you can experience solitude of walking and hiking semi-desrt or mountains with not a soul in sight, go on guided wilderness trails, enjoy glorious sun, a Kruger National Park Safari or many other South African National Parks. Your visit may also be contrasted by entertainment and pulse of cosmopolitan cities with a unique cultural blend.
Emerging from this wide selection of places to visit are the testimonies of First World visitors who comment on the welcoming hospitality they
received, contributing to a life-enriching experience during their visit to
South Africa. Many return year after year! Tourism has become one of South Africa's leading industries during the past decade, surpassing its main revenue source, the gold mining industry.
Demand for quality accommodation by tourists has led to a
high standard  with first class service across the country.

The best time to visit.

South Africa has year-round touring season because of the size of the country and the natural diversity. The summer months run from September to April and are
generally hot and sunny with afternoon showers, which are welcomed for cooling things down.
The winter months are from around  May through July and August. The majority of the country experiences dry winters with colder temperatures at higher altitudes. The
east coast is mild and the sea very clear during winter, so this could be a good time to visit and is out of the local holiday season.
In the Eastern Cape and
KwaZulu Natal it is the season for the Sardine run and the schools of Dolphins which follow. The Kruger park has less vegetation then, making it an ideal time for game viewing. Cape Town and its surrounding regions
can experience cool and wet winters during coastal fronts, but has the highlight of the whale calving season for whale watching enthusiasts.
South Africa is home to eight of the world's official heritage sites, as determined by Unesco's World Heritage Committee: four cultural, three natural and one mixed (cultural and natural) site. Starting with the first site added to the list, ending with the latest, these are:

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park: has both one of the largest estuary systems in Africa and the continent's southern-most coral reefs.Tour
Robben Island: is most famous as the place where Nelson Mandela, the first democratically elected president of South Africa, was imprisoned for 18 of his 27 years in jail.
Cradle of Humankind:Found in the provinces of Gauteng and North West, the fossil sites cover an area of 47 000 hectares.
uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park:has outstanding natural beauty, Africa's highest mountain range south of Kilimanjaro.
Mapungubwe: South Africa's first kingdom.
The Cape Floral Region:takes up only 0.04% of the world's land area, yet contains an astonishing 3% percent of its plant species.
The Vredefort Dome:among the top three the oldest and largest clearly visible meteorite impact sites in the world.
The Richtersveld Cultural and Botanical Landscape:covers 160 000 hectares of dramatic mountainous desert in the north-west part of South Africa.
